SHREE GHANAPATHY TEMPLE
Helping those without...
About twenty years ago, we started making approx. 35-40 large hampers at Christmas, containing food and toiletries for local elderly residents. Merton Council homecare services would then deliver them on our behalf, to the most vulnerable elderly people in the borough. The numbers of hampers given each year have steadily risen to about 150 each year.
When the numbers of hampers exceeded the need of Merton Council, extra hampers were given to ‘Age UK’ Mitcham and local Guilds to distribute to their most deserving members. More recently we have wanted to help those who are struggling with the cost of living crisis, so we are working on providing this service to those in the local community who depend on the generosity of others during these tough economic times.
More recent projects also include sending Dignity Bags for victims of the Syrian earthquake and provisions of clothes and food items to refugee camps set up in countries around Ukraine.
